Title: Somethin'Else
Pairing: Nick/Ellis
Rating: T (For Language)
Wordcount: 3,657 words
Genre: Romance & Friendship
Main Characters: Nick, Ellis, Rochelle
POV: Ellis (3rd Person Limited)
Summary: The survivors hunker down in an empty house to rest. Rochelle finds Nick a new flashlight just in time for him to search the basement for more supplies--- After a little encouragement from Ellis, that is.
Author's Commentary: A little fluffy oneshot I wrote when I was craving a classic Nellis moment. I couldn't help but write a bunch of Rochelle&Nick banter into it, too.
Excerpt:
It suddenly occurred to Ellis to wonder just how long Nick had been wanting this casual affection--- how long he'd apparently been denying himself of it for what he thought was Ellis' sake. For a moment, the surge of affection he felt for the other man was nearly intoxicating.
"You’re somethin' else," Ellis kept laughing giddily, stepping back in close to Nick. Looping his arms around Nick's waist, he rested his forehead on his shoulder, tilting his head just enough to account for the bill of his cap. He felt a hand reach up and plant itself firmly against his back, resting against the thin fabric of his T-shirt with a subtle warmth.
"Shut the fuck up," Nick said, but it lacked any real meanness. In any case, Ellis was more than happy to stay quiet this time, leaning into the other hand that snaked over his jaw and tilted his head up for another kiss. He let Nick explain himself wordlessly, relishing the sensation of the kiss as they both took their time for once.
Title and/or Working Title: Lagniappe (A Little Extra) / The Boatfic

Excerpt(s):
"I made her up. She's, uh... Not real," Nick mumbled after a moment, tipping his head back down. He didn't look back at Ellis, and instead busied himself with adjusting his shirt collar before he pulled another cigarette from the pack in his jacket pocket.
"You're fuckin' with me," Ellis chuckled uncertainly, then quieted himself when he looked back at the man sitting deathly still next to him and realized that for once, Nick really wasn’t fucking with him. He looked at his profile, carved in unmoving stone, and at the thin line of his mouth. Ellis balked a little.
"I made it all up," Nick added, almost to himself. He seemed paler than usual --- worryingly still as he pinched the fresh cigarette between his fingers.
"Why?" Ellis couldn't help but blurt out.
Nick looked like he was about to say something, but cut himself off. He licked his lips instead, nodding nearly imperceptibly to himself before finally turning to look into Ellis' eyes.
"Why the hell do you think? Really, kid. Be honest," he bit out sardonically, and Ellis didn’t miss the other man's voice threatening to come to a rasp as he slowly looked away once more, shifting his weight to turn his back to the mechanic. "You aren't that dumb."
--- "Wish we could've been doin' this earlier," Ellis hushed, feeling the lengthening stubble that accumulated on Nick's jawline with his fingertips. Drawing in a breath as he felt more kisses being pressed down the side of his face, he wondered when Nick had first noticed him that way --- if he had noticed him that way at all before this very moment. As the kisses became wet nips at the sensitive flesh below his ear, he thought about how nice it would have been to be able to get such intimate comfort back in Savannah. "Shit, man! We coulda made out in the Jimmy Gibbs!" he swore, suddenly at a normal volume, and he heard Nick's familiar irritated grunt from beside his ear. It was quickly replaced by a low tone that came with a promise.
"Trust me --- we would have done... More than that... In that hickmobile." The sentence reverberated against Ellis' throat between kisses as Nick continued down his jawline, seeming spurred on to capture Ellis' full attention even further by his distracted outburst.![]()
